Elinor Coatings creates solutions for corrosion, degradation, and fouling through research in surface protection. This role will join a team of researchers in developing new formulations of protective and anti-corrosion coatings for metals. Support long-term federal research contracts in aerospace and ground vehicle support.

About the Role

The purpose of this position is to advance Elinor Coatings’ mission of developing innovative, high performance corrosion resistant coating technologies by leading the testing, and evaluation of corrosion inhibitors for both customer-driven applications and internal R&D initiatives. This role strengthens the organization’s corrosion science capabilities through expert analysis, method development, and cross-project consultation while managing multiple technical efforts to meet strategic deadlines. The position leads the Corrosion team and ensures accurate generation, documentation, and communication of scientific data, fosters strong collaboration across research and operational teams, supports federal research commitments, and upholds a safe, well organized laboratory environment in alignment with Elinor safety protocols and continuous improvement efforts.

Responsabilidades

  • Conduct protective coating formulation, testing, and corrosion evaluation for customer trials and R&D projects

  • Consult across projects to enhance corrosion resistance of Elinor primers and topcoats

  • Expand capabilities in the area of corrosion research, analysis and testing

  • Perform root cause analysis, troubleshoot issues, and manage multiple projects to meet deadlines

  • Generate, document, and report data and technical progress to internal and external stakeholders

  • Manage cross-functional relationships and collaborate with managers, chemists, research assistants and senior leaders on strategic assessments, evaluations, scale-ups and research

  • Actively contribute and participate in customer support, scientific group meetings and discussions

  • Draft and revise SOPs and controlled documents

  • Maintain a safe and clean lab environment consistent with existing Elinor Safety Office protocols

  • Other duties as assigned

Requisitos

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • PhD in Polymers and Coatings, Chemistry, or closely related fields

  • 5+ years post-doctoral experience

  • Demonstrated experience with:

    • Coatings formulations, characterization, and testing

    • Corrosion protection, corrosion inhibition and electrochemical testing

    • Common coatings laboratory instrumentation

    • Word processing, spreadsheets, scheduling, and data analysis software

    • Supervising research teams with diverse backgrounds

    • Setting priorities and responding to changing needs from multiple sources

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years leading a corrosion team

  • Experience as a Principal Investigator/Co-Principal Investigator on a federal project (CRADA, grant, contract, OTA)

  • Experience mentoring early-career scientists (Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral level)

  • Experience working in coatings or related industry
