


Low Temperature Magnesium Sealer
MagnaShield is a one-component, low-temperature cured, phenolic epoxy hybrid sealant that is HAPs-free and has low VOC content. It is specifically designed for sealing MIL-DTL-32459 anodized magnesium substrates used in aerospace applications, such as coating helicopter gearboxes, and is compatible with epoxy primers and CARC topcoats.
Surface Preparation
Surface must be clean, dry, and in sound condition. Remove all oil, dust, grease, dirt, loose corrosion and other foreign materials to ensure adequate adhesion.
Substrate Cleaning Option:
Acetone or Methyl Ethyl Ketone
Pretreatment:
Preheat cleaned substrate at curing temperature. Remove from oven and let cool until 50-80°C before application.
Mixing Instructions

Gently stir resin before application.
Application
The quality of the application of all coatings will be influenced by the spray equipment chosen and the temperature, humidity, and air flow of the paint application area. We recommend preparing test panels to determine optimized equipment and settings for your application.
Equipment for Spraying
This product has been successfully applied using the HVLP spray gun method. The spray conditions were not optimized; however, the tested settings below can be used as a starting reference for gun tuning.

Air Adjustment: Fully open

Fan Adjustment: 0.75-1 turn counterclockwise

Induction Time: none
Reduction: tert-butyl acetate (if necessary)
Wet Film Thickness (WFT): 2-2.5 mils
Dry Film Thickness (DFT): 1-1.5 mils
